Research & Evaluation
The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is an extensive scheme covering the entire country subsuming within itself all other major governmental educational intervention. The project plan for dealing with a number of issues to address a number of aspects for a quality elementary education. Research and Evaluation are very important actions for the quality planning and implementation of the programmes. Research activities to be undertaken by the State, district, block and even clusters to study the class room practices or any other educational problems and prospects in the area. The Research and Evaluation Units at the district and state is to help the research and evaluation activities and capacity building of the researchers and research institutions. State and districts will provide rationale and other details of institutions and individuals propose some case studies. The District plans should reflect the plan regarding encouraging research and evaluation activities as a continuous process and utilisation of the findings in mid-term corrections and improvement of the SSA planning and delivery of intervention.
This intervention comprises of Research, Evaluation, Supervision and Monitoring. The norms propose an amount of Rs.1,500/- per school for the development of capacities and supervision through resource/research institutions on an effective EMIS. There are provisions for regular school mapping/micro planning for updating of household data. The funds can be utilised for both government and government aided schools. Following activities are proposed under the intervention.
- Creating a pool of resource persons for effective field based monitoring.
- Providing regular generation of community based data
- Conducting achievement test, evaluation studies
- Undertaking research activities
- Setting up special task force for low female literacy districts and for special monitoring of girls, SC, ST etc.
- Incurring expenditure on Education Management Information System.
- Undertaking contingent expenditure like charts, posters, sketch pen, OHP pen etc. for visual monitoring systems.
- Conduct cohort studies.

- Curriculum revision activities
- Preparation of teacher support materials
- Activities to enrich co-scholastic areas
- Activities to enrich English learning
Activities undertaken under Research and Evaluation
- Constituted a State level Research advisory committee
- Members of the SRAC are from SCERT, DPI, DDE, DIET, DEO, District Project Officers, Programme Officers, BRCs, AEOs
- Similar committees were constituted at District level.
- Terminal Assessment Study for DPEP-II Districts was conducted.
- Evaluation guidelines, student evaluation profile, consolidated form for promotion criteria was prepared and distributes among schools and teachers.
Model Evaluation activities for year end evaluation was formulated and distributed among district officials.
