Erstwhile known as Desiganad, this seaport town is well known historically for its commercial relationship with the Dutch, the Portuguese and the English. The light house and the Dutch fort of Thankasery stand out as a proud remainder of this past.

The green and palm covered backwaters of Ashtamudi, the golden sands and blue beaches of Paravur, the silvery waterfalls of Palaruvi, the evergreen forest of Thenmala are indispensable highlights in the tourism map of the state
